Liebster Award and Update

Hello all,
I have been ill this week, and so I have not posted, because I find it hard to motivate myself to do anything when I'm sick. But the worst is over now, and I couldn't not do this post because I'm too excited! (yes, I just used a double negative)

Emily Jane nominated me for the Liebster Award, which is awesome, plus her questions are really good, so I'm sure you're in for a good read :)
1. What is your favourite place to visit?
My Gran and Grandad's house. They live on a farm in rural Canterbury (middle of the South Island) and our cousins also live there, and we always just have so much fun, roaming the farm doing whatever we like!

2. Something you can't live without?
I'm tempted to say water, but I know that's not the point. Hmmm, I would probably say laughter. It would be a dreary world with no laughter.

3. What is the reason for starting your blog?
The reason I started my blog is a series of events. Firstly, I discovered the land of blogs when my mother showed me something on A Cup of Jo, at which point I thought that I would really like to do that but I was too scared. Then at school we made private blogs using blogger for a school assignment, and so I then knew how to use blogger. And so after a few more months I got the courage to make my own blog, and here we are! And also, the other reason is, I love writing (and reading).

4. What is your favourite book?
My favourite book, which I mentioned in this post, and am rereading again at the moment, is Anna and the French Kiss. It just makes me so happy everytime I read it, the characters are fantastic, and really, what more could you want from a book?

5. If for a day, you could be anybody, who would you be and why?
I would be........ oh wow, this is hard. Let me see, I would be Clara Oswin Oswald. Why? So I could meet the Doctor, obviously :) Also, Clara is my favourite companion!

6. What is your guilty pleasure? (It can be anything!)
I love to sing (but don't tell anyone;)!)

7. Do you have any phobias?
Yes, I have a phobia of heights, which almost stopped me from going up the Eiffel Tower, but my parents made me, telling me how much I would regret it if I didn't, but I clung to centre the whole time, and kept my knees so bent I was nearly sitting :)

8. Favourite flower?
Blossom, any blossom and all blossoms.

9. What is the bravest thing you've ever done?
Toss up between starting this blog and going up the aforementioned Eiffel Tower! (yes, I know, not particularly adventurous)

10. Best school memory :)
When I was in primary school (elementary for those of you from the US) I had a really great group of friends, and one lunchtime we were throwing a ball over a roof and we just spent the whole lunchtime giggling about it, because we weren't actually allowed to be doing it, but we just stopped and looked innocent as teachers walked past, before bursting into fits of giggles :)

Now for the fun part. I nominate:
Vanja from Crayons and Beads
Beth from Beth's Journal
Anne from Anne's Scribbles and Doodles
Emily from Stitching a Dream
Grace from Gracelles
Becca from Ladyface Blog
Rajrupa from Riot of Random
Nicole from Somewhere between Here and There
Lissa from the rain girl
And last but not least Molly from Fairly Molly

My questions for all you lovely bloggers are:
1. What do you love about where you live?
2. Worst friend experience?
3. What is your favourite part of blogging?
4. Rain; love it or hate it?
5. What is your favourite movie?
6. What was/is your least favourite school subject? (from any year)
7. Where would you live in the world, if you could?
8. Can you play a musical instrument?
9. What is your favourite song right now?
10. What was your best day this year?

Take a risk, take a chance, make a change

These are my musings from earlier this year on my struggles with deciding what subjects to take for my last year of school. It follows on my feelings from 'now I'm free falling'.

It is so hard to know the right choice when society gives out such conflicting messages.
Teachers and guest speakers at school say choose your passion, while books treat jobs as a means to pay the rent and complain about. Society revers those who make an impact on the world and become 'famous', yet older people in our lives tell us that such dreams are not realistic and we should strive for more achievable, reliable careers. We have have freedom of choice, but many a time I long to be free from choice.

On a different note, I have recently rediscovered my love of Narnia, and I am a bit sad after doing some googling and discovering that it is not likely that there will be another Narnia film until 2018! But when watching Prince Caspian, I feel in love with this song again.

Earth through a Lens

I was so pleased and relieved that practice exams are finished as of today, that I finally got around to a post I've been wanting to do ever since I began my blog!!
This is sort of the inspiration for my blog name. I wanted to take pictures to show you the difference between what I see with and without my glasses; what I see through my lenses. So because the camera doesn't have my bad eyesight (thank goodness!) the first 2 are blurred to show what I actually see compared to what I see through my glasses (or close enough). The rest I just liked by themselves :)
My glasses make rainbows! They are endless entertainment when bored in class, I can just put a rainbow over the teachers head!
Finally, two suns!! I hope your day is sunny today, whether it be actual or in thought :)

Wondrous Words

I like to collect words. These are just a few that I enjoy saying, like the way the word looks or love the meaning of. Do you have any words that you have come across and loved? I keep a list of them in my diary, and whenever I'm bored I read through them, and they amuse me. (Odd, I know, but what can you do?) I also love people who have a wide vocabulary, they brighten my day! :)
I also forgot one word, and that is honesty. I love it for its meaning. I believe that 'honesty is the best policy', but I also think that 'if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything'. I don't like it when people use honesty as an excuse for being mean, I believe in honesty in its most innocent form.
Finally, don't you just love the word marvellous? I love the way it rolls around your mouth and I will drop it into conversation with the smallest of excuses just so I can say it.
I hope you are all having a marvellous day (see?) and that if you are a bit glum, at least take some comfort in the fact that glum is a superb word!!

What makes me smile?

This is from the Happiness Project on Gracelles and I loved the idea, and so I decided to join in the fun!
1. Blogging. I haven't been blogging for long, but I love it. It is such an uplifting thing when someone comments or follows your blog, as if they have given you a hug and said, you're a really cool person! Bloggers are such a lovely community and blogging is a fantastic creative outlet and I'm so excited for all of the possibilities there are to blog about! :)

2. Sunshine. I live in a city renowned for its sunniness, and I love to sit in the sun, or go for walks in the sun or do anything in the sun. And no, I am not tan, I am very, very white and I don't tan at all. But I don't really mind. I also love storms and rainy days, and windy days, so I guess the weather makes me smile a lot. :)

3. Peter Pan. I recently bought J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan, and I am thoroughly enjoying reading it. It has always been one of my favourite Disney movies and I think probably the source of my lifelong dream to be able to fly like a fairy.

4. Music. (I want to say who doesn't love music, but chances are that with 7 billion people, someone doesn't.) My songs that never fail to make me smile at the moment are Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men, On Top of the World by Imagine Dragons and Love Love Love by Avalanche City. I also love musical theatre. :)

What makes you smile? :)
